Wanderlust World Wanderlust World While Passau and Linz are both located along the Danube River, these 2 cities offer very different experiences to travelers. Linz is known internationally for its comprehensive cultural life, castles and churches as much as it is known for its International Electronic Art Fair. Passau's cobblestone roads are famous for leading travelers around the city's center and to its vintage buildings and cathedrals. Traveling from Passau to Linz by train provides expansive views of the Danube River.
Go to the Deutsche Bahn Web site (see Resources). Select the "English" option from the gray menu bar located on the left side of the Web page. You should automatically be directed to a "Find A Connection" Web page.
Input "Passau" and "Linz" into the "Start and Destination" section. Select your day and time for departure and return, if needed.
Go to the "Means of Transport" section and enter your preferences for your train search. Select a standard search or exclude specific trains such as the Eurocity or ICE (high speed) train service if you prefer local train transport service. Check the box for "faster connections" for non-stop service and a quicker route to your destination. Check the box for "carriage of bicycles required" if you plan to bring a bicycle en route to Linz.
Select the number of travelers and your class options, first or second class. Be sure to include the ages of each traveler. If you have a Bahn Card (a German travel discount card), select the number and type of discount cards for each traveler.
Select your train ticket choice from the available options. Travel time from Passau to Linz ranges from 1 1/2 hour to 1 hour and 45 minutes. Add a return trip ticket at this time. If this is not necessary, continue with the one-way ticket from Passau to Linz.
Go to the "Booking Tickets" section. Input any offers (such as coupons) on your ticket fare in the "Offer of your choice" box which is sent as a request to the customer service center. Opt to reserve your seat or print your ticket online, if this selection is available for your train connection. If not, your tickets will be mailed to you free of charge within 2 to 3 days.
Book your train ticket with or without registering an account with the German rail system Web site. However, you have more options regarding your ticket if you choose to create an account. Those who register are free to redeem credit vouchers, can create traveling profiles and can cancel train tickets. If you choose not to register you can only pay for your ticket with a credit card.
Enter your personal information including your address and credit card data to book your ticket. Proceed to check out and print all confirmation information and keep for your records. Print your ticket if possible or wait for it to arrive in the mail.
