The modern House of Windsor was founded in 1917 by King George V (son of Edward VII and Alexandra). His son George VI succeeded after Edward VIII's abdication (1936). George VI's daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, reigned 1952–2022. The current monarch is King Charles III.
