Where did Sir Stamford Raffles came from?

Sir Stamford Raffles was born on 5 July 1781 in a small town called Deptford, which was located in Kent, England. His parents were named Benjamin and Anne Raffles. Benjamin was a captain in the British East India Company, and Anne was a homemaker. Stamford was the eldest of their five children.
