The Mayflower Compact was a landmark document signed by the English settlers of the Plymouth Colony in 1620.It is regarded as the first document of self government written in North America.The compact established a democratic form of government in which the colonists agreed to obey the laws and regulations enacted by the elected leaders.The compact also set the precedent for self government in the American colonies that followed.
