Was hereford ever part of wales?
Herefordshire was part of the Kingdom of Mercia from the 6th century onwards, and was a border area between the Welsh and English kingdoms. In 1066, Herefordshire was conquered by the Normans, who built castles and established a Norman administration. The county remained part of England, although there was a strong Welsh influence in the area, and Welsh was spoken in parts of Herefordshire until the 18th century.
