* John of Gaunt: John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, was a powerful nobleman who lived at Kenilworth Castle in the 14th century. He made many additions to the castle, including the Great Tower.
* Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester: Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester, was a favourite of Queen Elizabeth I. He lavishly entertained the Queen at Kenilworth Castle in 1575.
* James I: King James I of England visited Kenilworth Castle in 1605.
* Charles I: King Charles I of England stayed at Kenilworth Castle during the English Civil War. The castle was besieged by Parliamentarian forces and surrendered in 1646.
* Oliver Cromwell: Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England, ordered the destruction of Kenilworth Castle in 1652. The castle was partially demolished, and its ruins have been preserved ever since.
