Is the river basin of Amazon size Europe?

The Amazon rainforest covers much of northwestern South America, and has an estimated area of around 5.5 million square kilometres (over 2.1 million square miles). By contrast, Europe has a total area of 10.18 million square kilometres (3.93 million square miles). So the Amazon rainforest is about half the size of Europe.
