Calling from Texas to New York: No Long-Distance Charges
No long-distance charges apply for calls between Texas and New York — or any two points within the United States.
Why?
- Both states are in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) — country code +1.
- Domestic long-distance was eliminated by major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) in the 2000s.
- All modern plans (postpaid, prepaid, MVNO, VoIP) include unlimited US calling.
What Could Cost Money
- International calls from US to non-NANP countries
- Roaming if your phone connects to a non-US tower (border areas, cruise ships)
- Premium numbers (900, 976, some 800 from payphones)
- Landline legacy plans — rare; some rural co-ops or business lines may still meter
Practical Check
Dial 1 + 10 digits (e.g., 1-212-555-0123). If your plan says "unlimited talk & text," you're covered. No area-code surcharges exist.
