U.S. Cities Named Enid: There Are Two

Exactly two incorporated places in the United States bear the name Enid:

  1. Enid, Oklahoma — Population ~51,000 (2020). County seat of Garfield County. Founded 1893 (Cherokee Outlet land run). Named by railroad official M.A. Low after a character in Tennyson's Idylls of the King. Home of Vance AFB.
  2. Enid, Mississippi — Unincorporated community in Tallahatchie County, near the Tallahatchie River. Tiny (population <100). Likely named after the OK city or the same literary source.

No other Enids appear in USGS GNIS or Census data. The name (Welsh origin, "soul" or "life") peaked in US baby names 1910s–20s but never spawned many towns.
