Yellowstone National Park is known as the birthplace of geocaching. The first geocache was hidden on May 3, 2000 near Jackson Hole Wyoming, just outside of Yellowstone National Park. Dave Ulmer who worked for Magellan GPS at the time placed a 5 inch plastic bucket at the end of the driveway for his rental cabin in Jackson Hole, this geocache is known as GN01.
