Less than 10 minutes down the road from Schofield Barracks, The Dole Plantation (dole-plantation.com) is the historical home of the Dole pineapple brand. The Pineapple Express train takes you around the plantation while telling you the story of how it came to be. The plantation also features the world's largest maze, a lush tropical garden and pineapple ice cream.
Another area attraction, the Wahiawa Botanical Gardens (honolulu.gov/parks/hbg/wbg) features 27 acres of tropical plants, trees and flowers, and you can take a self-guided tour with a guide book to help you identify the many different plant species.
For those looking to eat off the base, Zippy's (zippys.com) offers casual Hawaiian and American favorites just two miles away. Try Zippy's famous chili, and the Hawaiian saimin noodles. Maui Mike's (mauimikes.com), also two miles away, is known for their slow-cooked fire-roasted chicken with spicy dipping sauces.

Just 25 minutes away, the USS Arizona Memorial is a somber, yet poignant memorial to the members of the military who lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II. Five minutes from the USS Arizona is the Pacific Aviation Museum at Pearl Harbor (pacificaviationmuseum.org), which showcases World War II fighter planes. The museum tour starts with a short movie that covers the attack on Pearl Harbor.
