Fort Worth, Texas welcomes 5.5 million visitors a year. People flock to the city and take in all of the attractions it has to offer. When site seeing in this "Lone Star" state city with children, visitors can experience Western fun, animals, science and much more. A family day of fun can easily be planned.
  1. Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame

    • Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame inducts cowboys each year.

      Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame has been honoring rodeo heroes and western lifestyle supporters since 2001. The hall was established in a vintage horse and mule barn located in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. Country singer George Strait, World Champion Bull Rider Don Gay and baseball player Nolan Ryan have all been inducted to the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. Visitors to the hall can visit booths of the inductees. Each inductee has donated personal memorabilia for their area of the Hall. Kids are invited to participate in the four station "Exploratorium." Here children can "Pack for the Trail" where they can pack a horse for a cowboy journey, brand a cow at the "Cowboy Alphabet" station, pack up a chuckwagon and dig for arrowheads in the sawdust. Visitors have a chance to experience real cowboy life at the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.

    Fort Worth Zoo

    • Visit the primate habitat at the Fort Worth Zoo.

      The Fort Worth Zoo is the oldest in Texas. The zoo was established in 1909 and has expanded to include 12 permanent exhibit areas and many special or seasonal exhibits. Penguins, primates, cheetahs, flamingos and more call the Fort Worth Zoo home. In addition to visiting the animals, children can meet some of them up close and personal at the "Texas Wild! Petting Coral." They can then visit the "Playbarn" for an interactive play experience. Older children may enjoy a climb on the "Tasmanian Tower" climbing wall while younger guests can take a train ride on the "Yellow Rose Express." A trip to the Fort Worth Zoo is exciting and educational.

    Fort Worth Museum of Science and History

    • There is 3,700 square feet of dinosaur exhibits at the museum.

      Families can learn about the past, present and future of Science at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. The museum features dinosaur skeletons that were excavated from Northern Texas. Visitors learn about how the dinosaurs roamed and lived in Texas. There is an exhibit of the museum dedicated to cattle and their extensive history in Texas. Children learn about science at its best at the "Energy Blast" exhibit. Here kids learn about physics, technology and future energy resources through 4-D movies and interactive displays.

    Fort Worth Stockyards

    • Longhorns still call the Fort Worth Stockyards home.

      Experience a real longhorn cattle drive at the Fort Worth Stockyards. Cowboys drive a herd of cattle twice a day at this historical cattle market. The Fort Worth Stockyards was once the second largest cattle market in the world. Today, the stockyards have a collection of shopping areas, activities and attractions for people of all ages. In addition to the cattle drive, kids can see animals at the petting zoo or the stockyards stables. Dine at one of the dozen restaurants or watering holes.
