Fun Activities at Disneyland in California

Disneyland, Disney's amusement park located near Los Angeles in Anaheim, Calif., boasts over one square mile of attractions with two theme parks and three hotels. While smaller than Disney World in Orlando, Fla., Disneyland was Walt Disney's first venture into theme parks and now has more than 50 attractions. The park can provide hours of fun for all ages, and there is more to do than just amusement park rides. Guests can also enjoy unique dining, shopping and show experiences while on their trip and make memories that can last a lifetime.
  1. Amusement Rides & Attractions

    • Disneyland offers themed thrill rides and tours. "California Screamin'" at Paradise Pier is a steel roller coaster that takes riders to an altitude of 120 feet and is over a mile long. "Space Mountain" sends people on a dark track lit with sweeping overhead lights. "Splash Mountain" is a nine-minute musical journey that leads to a climatic waterfall drop. For those looking for traditional rides, Disneyland offers a carousel, Ferris wheel and other attractions such as an aerial "Dumbo" ride and spinning "Mad Tea Cups." The Disney Gallery offers exhibits on the park and the Disney company, while the Animation Academy teaches the basics of Disney animation. "Starcade" in Tomorrowland is an arcade that features retro and modern video games.

    Dining

    • Disneyland offers a variety of restaurants from fun, funky diners to formal dining. The park has themed restaurants that entertain patrons while they eat. Blue Bayou in New Orleans Square is set in "perpetual" dusk, featuring the sounds of crickets and the light of fireflies. The Rainforest Cafe in the Downtown Disney District seats guests in the middle of an animatronic rainforest to experience "storms" at set intervals. Reservations can also be made for a character dining experience, where guests have the opportunity to share their meal with a favorite Disney character. Character dining reservations can be made by calling 714-781-DINE.

    Shopping

    • Disneyland shopping allows guests to take home and share the magic of the park. Guests can create customizable Mouse Ears and discover toys and apparel featuring their favorite characters from Disney, Pixar or even Star Wars. In addition to Disney character merchandise, other items can be personalized for gifts, and there are Disney pin trading locations throughout the park.

    Shows

    • In addition to musicians and entertainers scattered along Main Street, Disneyland offers jazz performances in New Orleans Square and swing bands at Carnation Gardens each Saturday. Guests can watch "Aladdin's Oasis," a short presentation highlighting the tale of Aladdin, in Adventureland. For "Toy Story" fans, there's "Golden Horseshoe Saloon Revue," which features "Woody's Roundup," the show referenced in the movies. Fireworks soar into the air nightly, and "World of Color" is a nighttime water show that uses more than 1,000 water jets to create Disney characters on the mist. The theme park also offers parades featuring Disney princesses and more.
