Housed within seven different counties in New Jersey, the Pine Barrens are a wide expanse of dense forestry and coastal plains. The region offers hiking, canoeing, duck hunting and other outdoor activities. As one of the founding colonies of the United States, New Jersey holds plenty of rich history within its borders. Visiting seniors can see firsthand where General George Washington famously crossed the Delaware River or see the home that was the center of fighting during the Revolutionary War's Battle of Princeton. Historic battlefields from both the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War are located throughout the state and can either stand alone or be viewed together as part of a tour group.
