Chandler's recreation department offers different classes people of all ages. Take classes together as a family. Some of the choices available are t-shirt design classes, digital album-making classes and classes in jewelry making, martial arts and belly dancing. Consider attending charm and etiquette classes with your daughter or take the family to learn American sign language, CPR and first aid.
Experience visual and performing arts at the Chandler Center for the Arts (chandlercenter.org). The center has an exhibition hall with rotating exhibits and three theaters. Public performances are offered from Friday through Sunday, and include family programs such as musical or dance performances. Past performances have included the "Zoppe Italian Family Circus," "Teen Talent Show" and "Dancing on Ice." See dozens of free art exhibits in the exhibition hall and in August or attend the annual free summer concert series. Tickets for performances may be purchases online, in person and by phone.
Take the family to museums to learn about the city's history and cultural heritage. The Chandler Museum is comprised of the Downtown Museum (no website; 178 E. Commonwealth Ave.; Chandler; 480-782-2717), the historic McCullough-Price House (300 S. Chandler Village Dr.; Chandler; 480-782-2717), and Tumbleweed Ranch (2250 S. McQueen Chandler; 480-782-2717). Learn about the city's past and present in the Downtown Museum. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, McCullough-Price House is an example of a 1930s Pueblo Revival style home which also features special exhibits. Learn about Chandler's agricultural past and how early farming families lived at Tumbleweed Ranch, where you will see historic homes and farm equipment from the early 1900s.
When you cannot enjoy the outdoors in Chandler, take the family to play in an family fun center. Jump Street (gotjump.com) is an indoor trampoline park and family sports center. The facility has large trampoline jumping areas, a trampoline dodge ball area, batting cages, arcade games and a special area with inflatable castles and slides for children age 7 and under. The entire family can even exercise together by taking a "Jump-Aerobics" class. Jump Street is open daily, and hourly fees apply.
