Located in West Genesee, the MMCM is a hands-on museum with interactive exhibits for children up to 12. As its official website notes, it strives to create "a comfortable space for family learning and togetherness." The bright and friendly environment has 11 galleries that explore subjects as diverse as agriculture, art, automotive science and communications. The exhibits were developed in accordance with the Michigan Curriculum Framework with the goal of encouraging early literacy and book awareness. The museum also offers special birthday packages for up to 20 guests.
Mid-Michigan and its parks afford opportunities for hiking, skiing, fishing, boating and camping. The Fort Custer Recreation Area has both open fields and dense forests for mountain biking and horseback riding. Newyago State Park offers rustic campsites with nearby swimming access in Hardy Dam Pond. The Yankee Springs Recreation Area has more than 5,000 acres of rolling scenery and abundant day use and overnight recreation facilities for your family.
Based in Muskegon, Michigan's Adventure has more than 50 rides, slides and attractions for your family. The park includes go karts, miniature golf, numerous roller coasters and water slides. They also have plenty of dining options, but outside food is not allowed. Since this is a summer activity, be sure to bring sunscreen and lighter clothing. Further, bring dry clothing or rain gear for the water rides. The park is open from mid-May to mid-September.
Founded in 1928, the Flint Institute of Arts serves more than 120,000 visitors per year with film screenings, concerts and family events. The 150,000 square feet of gallery exhibits both permanent and traveling connections of artwork. Shows have included everything from Picasso to Tiffany Lamps to Impressionist painting. The institution also includes a library, cafe, gift shop and a large auditorium for events of all kinds. FIA also presents school programs to more than 25,000 K through 12 students annually.
