The Best Romantic Weekends

Romantic weekends are a perfect break from the everyday routine. Spending time with your loved one can be rejuvenating and healthy for the relationship. It gives a chance for you to connect as a couple and rekindle the flame. Choosing the best romantic weekend destination means taking time and budget into consideration. If you can't travel, you can have a romantic weekend at home.
  1. The Beach

    • Getting a beachfront hotel room would be a romantic and relaxing way to spend the weekend. Hotels typically charge a higher rate for a room facing the beach, but it can be well worth it. Many beaches are also near other activities such as shopping and restaurants. If you're an active couple, consider going to a beach area that offers water sports such as personal watercraft, sailing or snorkeling. If you are the type of couple that just wants to relax, open a bottle of wine, sit on your balcony and enjoy the ocean view.

    Vineyards

    • California is known for its wine country in Napa Valley, but many other states have vineyards and wineries as well, which can be a perfect getaway for a couple. Our country has more than 6,000 wineries, within short distances of bed-and-breakfasts that are typically quaint and cozy. Many bed-and-breakfasts offer romantic amenities such as whirlpool spas, fresh flowers and candles. On the East Coast, Martha's Vineyard is a choice spot. Take a ferry ride to the island, where plenty of activities await, including boating, biking, shopping and sightseeing. The island is rich with art galleries, restaurants and theaters.

    Mountains and National Parks

    • Many people live within driving distance of mountains that are located near lakes. A cabin in the mountains or a cabin on a lake shore make great spots for rekindling romance. National parks are also beautiful destinations that would be a choice destination for an active couple. Most national parks have hotels within their boundaries, in addition to hiking and biking trails, and secluded areas that would be an ideal setting for a couple to enjoy a picnic in the beautiful natural setting. For example, Yosemite National Park provides opportunities to go horseback riding, rafting, backpacking and rock climbing.

    Home

    • If you are unable to travel for a romantic weekend, take time to enjoy each other at home. Have a picnic in the living room by spreading out a blanket and serving wine, cheese and fruit. Consider cooking your favorite meal together or have a spectacular seafood dinner with lobster. Have breakfast in bed, complete with mimosas. Light candles and put on music. Enjoy dinner at a romantic restaurant and go dancing afterward or listen to some live music. Consider ordering food to be delivered, then eat by candlelight. Be sure to turn off the phones and computer.
