RV Camping Near New York City

Although the thought of driving through downtown Manhattan strikes terror in the hearts of many RV travelers, there is no reason to leave New York City off your list of destinations. Four campgrounds within an hour of the city provide options for RVs of all sizes. The price points and amenities vary widely, so choose the park that best meets your needs.

  1. Liberty Harbor RV Park

    • Located across the Hudson River in Jersey City, New Jersey, Liberty Harbor RV Park provides stunning views of the Manhattan skyline. Transportation options into New York City include ferry service, the PATH subway, and even tour buses that depart from the park. Amenities include water and electric hookups, a dump station, fully equipped restrooms and laundry facilities, and wireless Internet service. All 50 sites are 45 feet long, and additional parking is available for an extra fee.

    Nassau County Campgrounds

    • Nassau County, New York, provides two county-run campgrounds on Long Island. Battle Row Campground is nestled in 44 acres of woods, while Nickerson Beach Campground provides beach access and swimming pools. Battle Row offers 64 campsites, 52 of which have water and electric hookups. A dump station is located on the premises. Restroom facilities and recreational fields are available. Nickerson Beach has 74 RV sites with water and electric hookups, 66 of which also provide sewer hookups. Besides the beach and pools, the park also offers a concession stand, a skate park, sports courts, cabanas and a playground. Both campgrounds are approximately one hour from Manhattan by car and provide easy access to public transportation via the Long Island Rail Road.

    Black Bear Campground

    • Located one hour from Manhattan in Florida, New York, Black Bear Campground is a full-service RV resort. Amenities include full hookups, free wireless Internet and cable television hookups, paved roads, level sites, tiled restrooms and laundry facilities. All sites have picnic tables and fire rings, and firewood is available on-site. Sports courts, games and a full schedule of activities are provided. Day-long guided tours of New York City highlights depart from the campground.

    New York City North/Newburgh KOA

    • Approximately 90 minutes from Manhattan in Plattekill, New York, this KOA is situated in the picturesque Hudson River Valley. The park features full hookups, cable television, wireless Internet access, and a packed schedule of events and activities. Free pancakes are served every morning at the snack bar. Clean restrooms, laundry facilities and a swimming pool are provided. All-day guided tours of New York City depart from this campground as well.
