Located seven miles from Niagara Falls, this campsite is open from April 1 through Oct. 31. You can fish in the Niagara River, rent a banana bike or a paddle boat. There are swimming pools, a game room and a playground, including a jumping pillow. Local attractions include tours that pick up campers to ride on the renowned Maid of the Mist boat, as well as go to a nearby casino.
Located in the tall pines in the Adirondack mountains, this KOA campground is open from May 1 to Oct. 21. This site has RV sites, tent camping, lean-tos and cabins. You can fish for trout in the Ausable River, and other activities include mountain biking, kayaking, hayrides and mini-golf. Nearby attractions include Lake Placid Olympic Attractions and the Whiteface Mountain Cloudsplitter Gondola rides.
The Cooperstown KOA is nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack mountains and is open May 1 through Oct. 16. It even has pull-through sites up to 70 feet. This pet-friendly park also offers free hayrides, an Amish bake sale and scavenger hunts. You can explore nearby Howe Caverns or cruise along the Erie Canal. Of course, Cooperstown is the home to the Baseball Hall of Fame. This park was awarded the Founders Award in 2009 by KOA.
Located on Lake George with a view of the Adirondacks, this park is open May 14 through Sept. 15. Here you can experience horseback riding, whitewater rafting on the Hudson River, bass fishing and golf at one of six nearby courses. You can even explore caves or the exhilaration of racing at one of two racetracks.
For a taste of nature and the big city there's the Newburgh/New York City North KOA located in the picture-postcard-perfect Hudson River Valley. From March 26 through Oct. 31 you can enjoy hiking, biking and rock climbing or sports like golf and fishing. Pick your own fruit at a farmers market or experience a ride on a fire truck. You can explore the historic West Point military academy or cruise the Hudson River. You can also catch a bus tour into New York City where you can see all the city sites, including a ferry ride over to the Statue of Liberty.
