Usually when you hear the term "adult" used in reference to something it means of a mature nature. When it comes to adult beaches, chances are clothing is optional. Adults feel free to strut about in their birthday suits or at least part of their birthday suit. However, most nude beaches are typically family friendly and children are welcome, although some adults don't find these beaches appropriate for children.
Haulover Beach is located in North Miami and is the only beach in Florida that legally allows nudity. The sections of the beach where clothing is optional are clearly marked, so those who wish to bare it all in the sun can do so comfortably. On this half-mile stretch of beach, nude volleyball is allowed and there is also a nude gay area. The beach welcomes all ages, genders and sexual orientations. This is also one of the most widely used clothing-optional beaches in the country.
Although Apollo Beach doesn't legally allow nudity, nude swimming has been practiced here for years. It is part of Canaveral National Seashore, which is on Florida's east coast between Daytona Beach and Melbourne. Typically, nude bathers aren't bothered by authorities or locals as long as they use a more secluded area. Close by in Daytona, there are accommodations specifically for the naturist lifestyle.
Playalinda Beach, which is also part of Canaveral National Seashore, is not advertised as a nude beach because it's managed by the Federal Government. However, it's a well-known beach where clothing is optional. It's also enjoyed by those who love nature because it's undeveloped and has preserved its natural beauty. As long as people don't abuse the privilege, law enforcement doesn't go out of its way to enforce public-indecency laws.
Also known as Air Force Beach, John D. MacArthur Beach State Park was once the best-known and most-accepted nude beach in Florida. However, in 1982 it was outlawed, and since then it's been quietly tolerated as long as you're outside the park boundaries. Walt Disney was invited to skinny dip here in the 1960s by John D. MacArthur himself.
