Public nudity is not necessarily against the law in Texas, but how others react to it can put a nudist in hot water. Texas law states that nudity will be considered illegal only if a person is reckless about offending or alarming someone. Nudists have responded by designating beaches, or certain areas of beaches, where they can congregate.
Bolivar/McFaddin Nude Beach is a small section of a beach just outside Galveston. It's located on U.S. Highway 87, a few miles north of High Island. The nudist portion of the beach can be populated by up to 200 nudists on the weekend. Single men usually visit the beach during the week, but quite a few nudist families come out on the weekend. People tend to use the beach year round, though high tides keep most visitors close to the parking area.
South Padre Island Nude Beach is a calm quiet ocean-side locale. Designated by a red log with the word "nude" painted in white, this beach has a close-knit community feel, but welcomes outsiders too. The beach is open year round. During winter months it is frequented mostly by hearty "Winter Texans," former residents who can stand the cold.
