In the predominantly conservative state of Texas, it can be difficult for those living an alternative lifestyle, such as gay or lesbian, to find places to relax while being true to their beliefs. However, the alternative sector has designated two beaches where people in Texas can meet with other gay and lesbian individuals to have fun in the sun; those with RVs have access to a different area for play and relaxation. Of course, these beaches are not limited to those living an alternative lifestyle, and anyone is welcome.
Along the shores of the lake, as well as its beach area, a more relaxed atmosphere has designated White Rock Lake in east Dallas as a gay-friendly zone. The Gay Outdoor Club meets here on Wednesday evenings for kayaking and a pot luck picnic; no experience is necessary to go out on the water.

Located in Austin, Texas, Hippie Hollow is strictly for adults as outlined by a 1995 ordinance forbidding kids under the age of 18 to enter the beach; as a clothing optional beach, be prepared to see plenty of skin. A man-made reservoir of Lake Travis has long been alternative-lifestyle-friendly where nude sunbathers can often be seen lounging about on boulders that line the water's edge. This is a great beach for the young and young-at-heart; however, if you don't like a noisier, more festive atmosphere, you will want to try a different beach for peace and quiet.

Self-proclaimed as not a "fat farm," the management team of Caribbean Cowboy wants their gay and lesbian guests to stay active by providing a variety of entertainment sources to keep them busy. In addition to all of the amenities on-site, like a clubhouse and pool, you can take group trips to nearby creeks and rivers for sunbathing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and other activities that can be done along the beach.
