Beaches in Freeport, Texas

Freeport, Texas, "where fun happens," is part of a multi-city community called Brazosport in the county of Brazoria. It is a popular area for both tourists and locals because of its 44 miles of beaches that stretch along the southwest coast, about 50 miles from Houston.

  1. Bryan Beach

    • Located 16 minutes from Freeport town center, near North Brazosport Boulevard and the Nolan Ryan Expressway, Bryan Beach is one of the few remaining Texas no-fee beaches where you can take a four-wheel drive right on the beach. Visitors can also pitch a campsite. The beach is off the beaten path, and visitors can enjoy spectacular sunsets. If spending the day there, bring provisions because there are few stores close to the beach. Freeport Golf Course is nearby, as are hiking trails at the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge Trail and the Peach Point Wildlife Management area. The beach is a fisherman's paradise, and the deep sea fishing by boat is considered one of the best areas on the Gulf Coast.

    Quintana Beach

    • Quintana is a family beach on a tiny island just north of Freeport, at the mouth of the Brazos River. This pedestrians-only beach, just off Beach Lake Drive, is a historic site with a continuous community of residents dating back to 1532. Quintana Beach and the associated Xeriscape Park have air-conditioned cabin rentals, a full-service beach park with shaded pavilions, RV hookups, bath house, restrooms and walkways to the beach. The park has a fishing pier and a tropical wildlife refuge for bird-watching. The area is considered a major migratory destination for tropical birds and includes many different varieties of indigenous butterflies. There is no fee to enter the area.

    Surfside Beach

    • Surfside Beach, on Country Road just off Route 332 East, is a beach within a quaint beach village with low-impact canal houses. Modern conveniences are nearby, along with modest accommodations. Small vehicles---not ATV or SUVs---are allowed on specially designated beach access areas. Camping is not permitted, but visitors can build a small campfire. Dunes are off limits to everyone. There is no fee to enter the beach, but it costs $3 a day for parking in the beach lot during the summer. Nearby village services include fishing advice, bait and tackle shops and boat rentals. You'll find water sports activities too.
