Fayston, a town in Washington County, Vermont, is located in an area known as the Mad River Valley. The valley is known for its fishing, hunting, skiing and hiking, and for the maple production of the area. Its inns have also become popular for weddings. Many of the inns of the Mad River Valley have been around for years and still retain their country charm.
The Mountain View Inn is a country inn that features views of the surrounding country. They're in the center of "ski country," near to the area of Sugarbush, as well as the Long Trail. Located about two miles from Waitsfield village, they're nearby to the small town shops and restaurants. They have seven rooms, which include Wi-Fi, offered at a rate of about $130 per night, as of January 2011. They require a minimum stay of two nights for weekends, but there's no minimum throughout the week. They don't allow smoking or pets. The Mountain View Inn requires a 50 percent deposit when reservations are made and need 14 days notice of cancellation to give a full refund.
Located in Montpelier, just a few miles from Fayston, Betsy's Bed and Breakfast features the downtown atmosphere of a small town and is within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. All 12 of its rooms offer cable TV, Wi-Fi and phones with data ports. Single occupancy rates are between $75 and $140, while double occupancies are between $85 and $150, as of January 2011. They also offer a carriage house suite, the only room in which pets are allowed. Smoking is allowed outside, but not in the rooms. Betsy's Bed and Breakfast also offers meals to suit special diets including low fat and vegetarian meals. They require no minimum stay for their standard rates, but need a credit card number as a deposit.
Maplecroft Bed and Breakfast is located in Barre, about eight miles from Fayston and located near many ski areas and resorts. In 2010, it was given the Times Argus Best of the Best Reader's Choice Award. It has three rooms and two suites and offers rates between $90 and $160, as of January 2011. Rooms feature Wi-Fi, and the suites have cable TV as well. Smoking and pets are not allowed and there are limitations on children staying. They require credit card confirmation as a deposit. They charge a $25 fee, per room, for cancellations made more than 14 days before the reservation, and a charge of 50 percent of the reservation price for cancellations between 14 days and 48 hours.
Reynolds House is located in the mountains, about eight miles from Fayston. It's a converted family home, built in 1892 and now adapted into a bed and breakfast. The owners are dedicated to maintaining the Reynolds House's historic charm. Their location is central to much of Vermont. They have five rooms, with rates between $95 and $125, as of January 2011, and recommend making a reservation. They don't require any minimum stay and don't allow smoking, pets or children.
