Hotels Near McAlester, OK

While not known for its tourism industry, McAlester has some points of interest. Located in the Southeast Oklahoma county of Pittsburg, the city is home to the Oklahoma State Penitentiary; Choctaw Casino; and Krebs, the Little Italy of Oklahoma. A wide selection of chain hotels are found in the city, mostly located on the arterial road of the South George Nigh Expressway (US-69), which runs north to south through the city.

  1. The Happy Days Hotel

    • As this hotel's name suggests, it's based on the TV show Happy Days, which aired in the '70s and '80s, but was themed in the '50s. Located on the South George Nigh Expressway (US-69), the hotel is a two-minute drive from downtown McAlester, two and a half miles from the local regional airport, and 13 from McAlester's army ammunition plant. The onsite Angel's Diner serves authentic American cuisine, and continues the Happy Days and '50s theme from the hotel. Local attractions include the Little Italy community of downtown Krebs, just a five-minute drive, where a number of Italian restaurants await, including Roseanna's, Napoli's and Pete's Place.

    Candlewood Suites

    • The Candlewood Suites Hotel, also located on the South George Nigh Expressway, places guests half a mile from McAlester city center. Guests can drive 20 minutes into downtown for antique shopping in the Old Town District, while a visit to the Scottish Rite Masonic Center provides an insight into the area's history. For an exciting evening's activity, visit the Choctaw Casino, situated adjacent to the McAlester Regional Airport. At the Candlewood Suites, guests gain free access to a 24-hour fitness center, wireless Internet and a convenience store. The only dining option onsite is a small snack bar area, but Pizza Inn, Adelita's Cafe or Carl's Jr. are each within a 10-minute walk.

    Econo Lodge

    • McAlester's Econo Lodge Hotel is located among a string of other venues on the South George Nigh Expressway. This pet-friendly (charges applied) accommodation includes a number of free amenities, including parking, Wi-Fi access and continental breakfast. Those looking to experience the fresh, green Oklahoma countryside can drive the 40 miles to the Robber's Cave State Park, where a variety of family activities are available. Fishing, horseback rides, hiking, biking, climbing, rappelling and wildlife trails are all found at the park. Since breakfast is the only meal served at the Econo Lodge, guests will have to travel to the nearby East Gourmet and Hunan Chinese restaurants or Chili's Grill and Bar for lunch and dinner.

    Motel 6

    • The Motel 6 in McAlester is situated adjacent to US-69, a mile from downtown. Guests staying at the motel are well-placed to take the expressway 40 miles north to Lake Eufala, where a selection of activities including hiking, biking, wildlife trails and fishing awaits. More locally, the McAlester Fairgrounds, located within a 10-minute drive of Motel 6, is a popular site for local and visiting children. Motel guests enjoy free morning coffee and wireless Internet access, while "well-behaved" pets are permitted to stay free of charge. A host of eateries are within a five-minute walk, including Long John Silver's, Golden China and A&W All American.
