Hotels Near Abbeyville, Colorado

Abbeyville, Colorado, a ghost town located in Gunnison National Forest, was first settled in 1881 when a smelter was built to process ores from nearby mines. Not much remains of the former town, but the area remains a popular recreation area. Off-road vehicle riding is a popular way to explore nearby abandoned settlements and the surrounding mountain passes. Although there are no hotels in Abbeyville itself, there are some within a short drive.

  1. Harmel's Ranch Resort

    • Harmel's Ranch Resort is located within an hour's drive west of Abbeyville. The resort is open from May to September and is located high in the Colorado Rocky Mountains north of Gunnison. In addition to offering visitors cabins and a guest ranch, the resort is an ideal starting point to explore the trails in Gunnison National Forest. Guests can also enjoy fly-fishing, whitewater rafting on the nearby Taylor River and horseback riding.

    Three Rivers Resort

    • Located in the historic town of Almont, the Three Rivers Resort offers guests cabins dating back to the late 1800s. Abbeyville is just over an hour's drive east of Almont. Guests staying at the property have access to experienced guides for whitewater rafting, fishing and kayaking in the surrounding area. Visitors can also rent a Jeep to explore the nearby mountain passes and abandoned mining towns, including Abbeyville. The resort also has a general store and private on-site fishing for guests on the Taylor River.

    Pitkin Hotel

    • The Pitkin Hotel and Hostel is located in the former gold mining town of Pitkin, Colorado. Pitkin is just under an hour's drive south of Abbeyville and is located only 12 miles from the Continental Divide. The town is a popular destination for both winter and summer outdoor activities. Cross country skiing, snowmobiling and hiking are only a few options for visitors. Built in 1904, the hotel is listed in the Colorado Historical Register as a historical building.

    • Just under two hours west of Abbeyville is Buena Vista, Colorado. The town is nestled in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and offers outdoor enthusiasts various options near the town for hiking, mountain biking, ATV riding, camping and skiing. There are a number of independent and national chain hotels located in Buena Vista, including the Best Western Plus Vista Inn. Located near the historic downtown, the hotel offers guests an indoor swimming pool and spa and a seasonal outdoor spa.
