Carcross, Yukon, is located in southwestern Canada, about three hours from the Alaska border and 25 minutes from the border of British Columbia. Carcross was once known as Caribou Crossing, named for the large herds of Caribou that crossed between the Bennett and Tagish Lakes. Caribou Crossing was a gold rush town until 1901, and in 1904, the area was renamed Carcross because of mail delivery mix-ups with other areas of the same name.
