Central California Vacations

Central California is known world wide as a vacation destination. It's temperate climates and natural landscapes create a comfortable environment to relax in. People visit central California for it's beaches, mountains, historic landmarks and hiking trails. Some locations worth visiting include Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez and San Luis Obispo -- each with much to do and see.

  1. Santa Barbara

    • The historic Santa Barbara mission is a beautiful sight.

      Santa Barbara, California is a luxurious beach town situated 90 miles north of Los Angeles. State Street runs through the center of the Spanish-style downtown district. It offers shopping, fine dining and a number of bars and nightclubs. If you are looking for a more laid back vacation, you can visit one of Santa Barbara's many beaches, explore Santa Barbara mission or go hiking in the Santa Ynez mountain range, or book an appointment at one of many relaxing spas and salons. You can also schedule your visit around the Solstice parade in June or during the Santa Barbara Film Fest which takes place from late January to February.

    Santa Ynez Valley

    • Go wine tasting on the vineyards estates.

      The Santa Ynez Valley is known for it's abundant wine region and scenic locale. Schedule a visit at a winery and arrange for a private tasting with the wine maker or just drop into one of the many tasting rooms in the town of Los Olivos. A trip to the Santa Ynez Valley would not be complete without a stop in the Danish town of Solvang. Order the Danish delicacy, ableskeiver, which is a pancake ball with raspberry jam in the center.

    San Luis Obispo

    • The pool at the Hearst Castle is a highlight on the tour.

      San Luis Obispo is a central coast town that constantly tops lists for cities with the best quality of life. Stay in one of the themed rooms at the historical Madonna Inn. Hike to the top of Bishop's Peak to take in a view of the entire city. Travel 40 miles north to San Simeon to visit Hearst's Castle. This is the large estate of publisher William Randolph Hearst and it offers a spacious view of the Pacific Ocean.

    Monterey

    • The Monterey Bay aquarium features a large collection of jellyfish.

      Monterey, California is a historical town captured in John Steinbeck novels. Step into the past by visiting Cannery Row, which used to be full of fish canning factories but is now a bustling tourist attraction full of restaurants and shops. Stop by the Monterey Bay aquarium to visit an extensive collection of sea creatures. Stay for the dolphin show.
