Although the village of Tickfaw has a population of just 617, it is in Tangipahoa Parish, one of Louisiana's fastest growing areas, and just four miles from the city of Hammond, which is home to Southern Louisiana University. Visitors to New Orleans and Baton Rouge, just an hour or so from the Tickfaw area, often stay in Hammond.
