Although the village of Tickfaw has a population of just 617, it is in Tangipahoa Parish, one of Louisiana's fastest growing areas, and just four miles from the city of Hammond, which is home to Southern Louisiana University. Visitors to New Orleans and Baton Rouge, just an hour or so from the Tickfaw area, often stay in Hammond.
The only lodging in the village of Tickfaw itself is G.W. Newsom House, a Victorian home built in 1903. This bed and breakfast is furnished with antiques and offers four bedrooms with king or double beds. Roll-aways are available upon request. Guests are invited to sit on the veranda and enjoy a cup of tea while watching the trains go by. For antique enthusiasts, Ponchatoula, known as "America's Antique City," is about 10 minutes from Tickfaw, and flea markets and antique stores dot Highway 51 along the way.
The Quality Inn and Conference Center in Hammond is just a few minutes from Southern Louisiana University and local attractions such as the Cajun Water World theme park and the Collinswood School Museum, a converted one-room schoolhouse built in 1876 that displays local historical artifacts. Boating, fishing, bowling and golfing opportunities are nearby. The hotel provides guests with a free continental breakfast, indoor and outdoor pools, game and exercise rooms, and wireless Internet. Ten banquet and meeting rooms are available for business travelers. Pets weighing 50 pounds or less are welcome for a fee, with a limit of two per room.

It is also four miles from the Columbia Theater in Hammond, eight miles from Kliebert's Turtle and Alligator Farm, which offers wildlife tours, and 15 miles from Zemurray Gardens. The lodging has 53 large rooms and serves a free hot southern-style breakfast. All guest rooms have refrigerators, high-speed Internet and cable satellite. Value Place is an extended stay option, seven miles from Tickfaw.
