Chimacum’s surrounding area is a tourist destination both for its marine location and as a gateway to Olympic National Park. The city itself has no hotels, but surrounding towns offer a variety of overnight accommodations. Many area hotels are in Port Townsend, which boasts a Victorian historic city center, wineries, microbreweries, whale watching, boating activities and a Marine Science Center.
Just nine minutes northeast of Chimacum, the Inn at Port Hadlock offers breathtaking views of the marina. It sits in one of the oldest occupied areas in the state of Washington, dating back more than 12,000 years. Port Hadlock’s Wooden Boat School teaches specialized methods developed by Puget Sound builders during the early 20th century. The Art Mine Gallery on the hotel’s premises exhibits local and national artists and teaches fine art classes and workshops. Nemo’s Restaurant features Northwest cuisine and has fine water views. Since 1948, the Eaglemount Rockery Cottages in Port Townsend have provided overnight rentals 15 minutes from Chimacum. Each cottage has a different layout and decorative style. The cottages are authentic World War II era military housing units that were disassembled after the war and relocated to the property. A unique on-site museum displays curiosities like totem poles, miniature handcrafted fairy castles and a large relief map of Washington.
Chevy Chase Beach Cabins in Port Townsend are 18 minutes from Chimacum. The complex has an outdoor swimming pool, shuffleboard, tennis court, horseshoes and croquet and is adjacent to Discovery Bay Golf Club. A trail through the woods leads across a footbridge and down to a private, sandy beach in Discovery Bay, which is ideal for kayaking. Different cabins grant views of the bay, the Olympic mountains, gardens or a pond. Each one has a distinctive set of amenities, and some come with fireplaces, kitchen facilities, Wi-Fi, gas grills, private decks and DVD players.
Manresa Castle was once the home of a prominent Port Townsend business family and later a Jesuit training college. Now it is a boutique hotel set in a Victorian mansion and is 23 minutes from Chimacum. Castle Key restaurant serves seafood and steak and regularly hosts live jazz music and special events. Each guest room is uniquely decorated, and some rooms overlook the town, the bay or the Olympic and Cascade Mountains. The hotel is convenient to waterfront hiking trails and the downtown historic district.
