Founded in 1833 near the portage from the Great Lakes to the Mississippi watershed, Chicago was a transportation hub from the beginning due to its location, and it still is one. Today O'Hare International Airport is the second busiest airport in the world. Chicago is the largest city in the midwestern United States, with over 2.8 million residents, and one of the world's major financial and business centers.
