Towson, Maryland, was settled in 1752 by two Pennsylvania farmers, William Towson and his brother, Thomas Towson. The town supports local farmers with its Farmer's Market, closing down Allegheny Avenue every Thursday afternoon in the summer. Visitors also can tour Hampton Mansion, which, with 25,000 square feet of living space, was the largest private home in the United States upon its completion in 1790. Those wishing to finish the day by dining on Maryland seafood can choose from two Towson restaurants or travel just a few miles to Baltimore.
Fresh Fresh Seafood has received notoriety and superb reviews from The Baltimore Sun and The Towson Times, for a menu that includes hush puppies, homemade crab cakes, stuffed shrimp and oysters. All food is cooked to order from fresh ingredients. The owners, Darlene and Ricky Parker, say they named the restaurant Fresh Fresh Seafood because the word "fresh" deserved to be said twice. This restaurant makes all desserts from scratch, such as homemade cheesecake, coconut cake, sweet potato pie and peach cobbler. Delivery and catering are available. Fresh Fresh is on historic York Road, the scene of two Civil War events. A Confederate Cavalry unit raided the Northern Central Railroad line near Cockeysville on July 9, 1864, and skirmished the next day with the Union Cavalry.
The Crackpot Restaurant received an award for the Best Steamed Crabs in 2003 from "Towson Magazine." It opened in 1971, and in 1983 was voted Best Seafood Restaurant by "Baltimore Magazine." The Crackpot offers several crab cake variations, including Hawaiian and Italian. Other menu highlights include cream of crab soup, stuffed lobster tail, broiled scallops and Crab Imperial. Its casual atmosphere offers seafood-hungry travelers a comfortable dining environment.
