Inverness, Florida, serves as the county seat of Citrus County and is the largest municipality in the county with a population of more than 7,100 people as of July 2009. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities for three-year-olds in the community.
The Citrus County Library System consists of five public libraries, including the Lakes Region branch in Inverness. The library offers activities for children in addition its collection of children's books and media like DVDs. The library holds a weekly story time for preschoolers, ages three to five. The children listen to a read-aloud story and then participate in activities related to the book, such as singing or creative play. The sessions last for 30 minutes and are open to the public. The library is open Monday through Saturday.
The Step N' Time Dance School offers dance instruction for children of all ages. Three and four year olds at the Step N' Time Dance School take a course called "Creative." The class incorporates elements of tap, ballet, acrobatics and theatrical improvisations. Students learn to listen to music and develop motor skills through the class exercises. The school offers an annual recital performance for the toddlers to show what they learned in the class.
The city of Inverness operates the 290-acre Whispering Pines Park. Three year olds can enjoy the park’s playground which features an easy-to-climb slide as well as swings. The park also features a water playground for youngsters. Picnic tables are located near the water attraction as is a hiking trail. The park is open daily year-round, except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
