Fun Things for Kids to Do in Northwest Ohio

Northwest Ohio encompasses a variety of cities both large and small that offer an abundance of activities for kids of all ages. Kids can gain meaningful learning experiences and understanding of scientific concepts by exploring a science museum, view historical artifacts by visiting a historical museum or get a feel of life in the olden days by visiting a historic village.

  1. Imagination Station

    • Imagination Station is a science center in Toledo dedicated to providing children of all ages with a fun and exciting educational experience. It provides more than 250 multi-sensory hands-on exhibits through six unique Learning Worlds. Visitors can gain a one-of-a-kind experience through the permanent and temporary displays of classic and modern science. Imagination Station is committed to providing fresh and new experiences, and it offers a constantly changing event calendar. Major museum attractions include the High Wire Cycle, Energy Factory and Simulator Theater. There is also an area called Little KIDSPACE to accommodate young guests. The Atomic Café is located within the center and it provides a variety of menu items for guests. Imagination Station accommodates birthday parties and offers three party packages to meet guests’ needs. Imagination Station is open year-round regularly on Tuesdays through Sundays and on some special Mondays such as Columbus Day and Memorial Day.

    Allen County Museum

    • The Allen County Museum in Lima houses historical artifacts and models. It includes a variety of exhibits, including models of the first automobile, rocks and minerals, and a replica of George Washington’s home. It also includes the Children’s Discovery Center that offers a single-room schoolhouse, log cabin, general store, Native American hut and model railroad display. A large activity space and classroom are also located in the Children’s Discovery Center. The museum offers many different monthly events throughout the year. The Allen County Museum accommodates groups and school field trips and offers guided tours and traveling museum programs. The campus of the Allen County Museum includes the main museum buildings, John H. Keller Railroad Archives, MacDonell House and Elizabeth M. MacDonell Memorial Library. The Allen County Museum is open year-round Tuesdays through Sundays.

    Sauder Village

    • Sauder Village in Archbold is a historical village dedicated to providing guests with an insight of the daily life during the 19th and early 20th century time frames. It offers a variety of activities throughout its operating season such as old printing technique demonstrations, historic crafts and food preparations. Sauder Village houses an array of historical structures from the Northwest Ohio area. The exhibits include Pioneer Settlement, Great Black Swap and Sauder Village Collections. There is also a Little Pioneers exhibit for young visitors. There are a variety of artifacts such as furnishings, farming tools and household items. Sauder Village also includes a campground, 98-room inn, 350-seat restaurant, meeting/banquet center and many locations for shopping. The village offers many different special events and activities as well as classes and shows. Sauder Village is open from the end of April through the end of October Tuesdays through Sundays.
