The Tower Theater is a large building in San Francisco that was a popular theater and gathering place in the Mission District. The building is two floors, and has the capacity to seat 870 people. The building is 8,922 square feet.
The theater was built in 1911, and remained open until 1996. The building has served as a church, and is located at 2465 Mission Street. The building is now closed.
The theater’s main feature was a 60-foot marquee on the outside of the building that said, “Tower,” but is now lacking the “Tow.” The theater building has a large stage, with permanent seating in the balcony area. The floor of the theater is an open space with no seating.
The front of the Tower Theater is adorned by a mural by the artist Cuba, which depicts classic cars and images of women standing near the cars. When the tower was operating as a theater, the inside walls were covered by large murals showing early California settlements.
