The 10 Tallest Buildings in the U.S.

Known for its tall buildings and massive cities, the United States is home to some of the most marvelous advancements in architecture. While Burj Khalifa in Dubai is the world's tallest building, the U.S. has some sizable buildings of its own, many of which are in Chicago and New York City.
  1. U.S. Bank Tower (No. 10)

    • As one of two Los Angeles buildings to crack the top ten, the U.S. Bank Tower sits at over 1,018 feet. It was formerly called the Library Tower and First Interstate World Center.

    Bank of America Plaza (No. 9)

    • The Bank of America Plaza is the tallest building in Dallas. At a height of 921 feet and 72 stories, the building is the 53rd tallest building in the world.

    New York Times Building (No. 8)

    • Completed in 2007, the New York Times Building is the headquarters of the New York Times Company, which publishes the New York Times, Boston Globe and the International Herald Tribune. The building stands at 1,046 feet.

    Chrysler Building (No. 7)

    • The Chrysler Building is New York City's second Art Deco style building on the top-ten list. Towering over the city at 1,047 feet high, the Chrysler Building is the world's tallest brick building.

    John Hancock Center (No. 6)

    • At 100 stories high, the John Hancock Center in Chicago is the city's third-tallest building. The building was completed in 1969 and at the time was the tallest building in the world outside of New York City.

    Aon Center (No. 5)

    • Located in downtown Los Angeles, the Aon Center is LA's second-tallest building. Measuring at 858 feet and 62 floors; the outside is rectangular with white strips down the corners and black glass everywhere else.

    Bank of America Tower (No. 4)

    • The Bank of America Tower in New York is a 1,200-foot, 47-story building with three glass layers. Construction cost $1 billion.

    Empire State Building (No. 3)

    • As one of New York City's most-prized structures, the Empire State Building is built in an Art Deco style and stretches 102 stories into the air, or 1,250 feet. After its completion in 1931, it was the world's tallest building, until the World Trade Center's North Tower was built in 1972.

    Trump International Hotel and Tower (No. 2)

    • Locate in downtown Chicago, the Trump International Hotel and Tower is a condo-hotel. The building is named after billionaire real estate developer Donald Trump. The 92-story building is 1,362 feet high.

    Willis Tower

    • As one of Chicago's three tall buildings to crack the top 10 list, the Willis Tower is a center for business. At 110 stories high and 1,450 feet, the Willis Tower is the tallest building in the entire Western Hemisphere.
