The Tallest Towers in the World

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat establishes the criteria regarding which structures qualify as tall buildings and towers. While many building are actually taller than the towers listed here, they are not by definition towers and have been excluded. Additionally, this list includes only freestanding towers not supported by guy-wires or other support structures.
  1. Canadian National Tower

    • The Canadian National Tower located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada was built in 1975 and stands 1,815 feet high. The tower is used for communications and observation.

    Ostankino Tower

    • The Ostankino Tower is located in Moscow Russia. Built in 1967, the tower is 1,762 feet tall. Ostankino Tower is used primarily for radio and television broadcasts.

    KFVS TV Tower

    • Television station KFVS's TV Tower was built in 1960 and reaches 1,677 feet in height. The tower is used for television broadcasts.

    Oriental Pearl Tower

    • The Oriental Pearl Tower is located in Shanghai, China. The tower was built in 1995. The 1,535-foot structure is used for radio and television broadcasts and includes an observation deck.

    Milad Tower

    • The Milad Tower in Tehran, Iran was completed in 2005 and reaches 1,427 feet in height. While the shortest of the towers listed here, the Milad tower is an ambitious structure. Its primary function is of a telecommunications tower but it also incorporates restaurants, a hotel and a convention center into its design.
