The 34-story Platinum Tower is the tallest structure in Beirut, standing 501 feet. The construction of the mostly residential luxury apartment building was completed in 2008, with an estimated cost of $200 million. Though the majority of the floors are for residential purposes, there are ground-floor stores, as well as offices on select lower floors.
Platinum Tower is located on the Beirut Marina, a waterfront development area that is home to not only residential high-rises, but also numerous small beach areas, restaurants, shops and yacht clubs.
Marina Towers is the second-largest tower in Beirut at 492 feet. The structure took nine years to build, reaching completion in 2008. Like the Platinum Tower, this 26-story luxury apartment building is located on the Beirut Marina. Another trait the Marina Towers shares with Platinum Tower is the use of the building for office space as well as for residential usage. The apartments are interestingly designed, with the ceilings within each apartment being of different height: Living areas have 18-foot high ceilings, and bedrooms have 11-foot ceilings.
Part of the Marina Towers property not only includes the 26 story tower itself, but the 11-story Marina Court, and the nine-story Marina Garden.
The Sama Beirut will be the largest tower in Beirut when work is completed in 2014 (construction began in 2009). The 50-story tower will be 656 feet high and will sit on a 5,000-square-foot lot, with the building occupying 1,200 square feet. The rest of the lot will be devoted to a large private garden.
The majority of the space in the Sama Beirut will be dedicated to 58 luxury apartments. Offices will be placed on the third and eighth floors, and six shops will be placed on the ground and first floors. Six underground floors will be used for storage and for parking facilities with space for 560 cars.
The soon-to-be-largest tower in Beirut will also have environmentally friendly attributes, including solar water heating for the entire tower, and wastewater recycling and irrigating for the 3,800-square-foot garden.
