The South Brevard recreational department offers swimming classes for babies, youths and adults, as well as a recreational swim team program located at Satellite High School. The South Brevard recreational department's swimming classes are held at four locations: Indian Harbor Beach, Palm Bay, Cocoa Beach and the Suntree YMCA. The swimming programs offered at Satellite High School have a limited number of sign ups available, but they also offer a recreational swim team program for youths. Sign ups for swimming activities at Satellite High School begin on April 1 of each year.
About 21 miles north of the city of Satellite, the Cocoa Beach YMCA offers classes and extensive programs in aquatics, including masters classes, multiple developmental swim team programs, YCF junior swim teams, pike group, ray group, and polliwag swim programs. The diversity of swimming programs at the YMCA offers youths a variety of swimming activities for every level of swimmer. Check with the Cocoa Beach YMCA for program schedules and information.
Pelican Beach Park, located on 1525 Highway A1A in Satellite Beach, is another place where kids can practice swimming. During the summer months, the Sea Turtle Preservation Society hosts weekly "Talks and Walks," focusing on sea turtles. Children will also enjoy Pelican Park Beach for it's surf conditions. The north dune crossover on Pelican Park Beach is called "Pelican" by local surfers, and it produced pro surfers C.J. and Damien Hobgood.
The Community Pool at the Cocoa Beach Country Club, located about 20 miles north of Satellite Beach in Cocoa Beach, also has multiple youth swimming programs and activities. The Community Pool at Cocoa Beach offers swimming lessons for all ages and skill levels, as well as recreational swimming, recreational league swim teams, and a jumbo water slide. Advanced youth swimmers should also look into the Community Pool's Cocoa Beach Swim Club (U.S.A Swimming), which is competitive.
