Activities in Palm Beach Shores, Florida

Palm Beach Shores, Florida, is surrounded by water on three sides, making its beaches a hot spot for water sports and leisurely activities throughout the year. Although Palm Beach Shores may be known for its beaches, you'll find other interesting and exciting things to do in the town located on the southern tip of Singer Island aside from just soaking in the sun.
  1. Take Sailing Lessons

    • Go to the Palm Beach Sailing Club (pbsail.org), member of the United States Sailing Association, to learn how to sail. The Club offers youth and adult sailing lessons throughout the year. Adults can take two-day group or skipper courses with classroom and water sessions or private three-hour lessons. Beginner to advanced sailing lessons are available for kids throughout the year. Kids can also join the Club's "Summer Sailing Camp." The program, which is for kids 7 and older, is comprised of single-day or five-day sessions, and camp, where kids are divided by age group, is a comprised of ten one-week sessions.

    Shop for Arts and Crafts

    • Buy different works of art in the Sailfish Marina's (sailfishmarina.com) arts and crafts show. Every Thursday evening you can shop for sculptures, pottery, paintings, blown glass, and jewelry from over 30 artists. Listen to the street musicians as you're shopping and try the grouper dogs and conch fritters from the Sailfish Marina Restaurant's waterfront food stand. Dining in the restaurant is also an option. The Sailfish Marina is accessible by its water taxi shuttle service from Downtown West Palm Beach.

    Visit a State Park

    • Spend the day in John D. Macarthur Beach State Park (floridastateparks.org) and enjoy dozens of activities. Learn why the park is a biological treasure in the William T. Kirby Nature Center. Go swimming, surfing, scuba diving and snorkeling in the beach. Wade or ride your kayak or canoe and fish in the lagoon. See sea turtles from early May through late August and shore and wading birds throughout the year. Hike on three nature trails and enjoy a picnic in different places throughout the park. John D. Macarthur Beach State Park is open 365 days a year.

    Go to the Zoo

    • Take the entire family to see over 1,400 animals from all over the world within 23 acres of tropical habitat in the Palm Beach Zoo (palmbeachzoo.org). Kids can ride the carousel and splash around in the water play fountain. Watch animal performances that are presented daily and when you get hungry, enjoy a meal in the zoo's restaurant, Tropics Cafe. The zoo also hosts a summer camp and an overnight program for kids as well as special family events throughout the year. The Palm Beach Zoo is open every day except for Thanksgiving and Christmas and children under 3 years old are admitted for free.
