Singer Island, Florida, Activities

Singer Island, Florida, is located in the Palm Beach area along the east coast of Florida. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, it was owned by Paris Singer in the 1920s, son of sewing-machine magnate Isaac Singer. In 1940, the city of Riviera purchased 100 feet of beach on Singer Island, and as of July 2009, the area is populated with various beaches, hotels and resorts. Singer Island offers guests beautiful beaches and all of the various activities of Palm Beach County.

  1. Sailfish Marina

    • Located in Palm Beach, the Sailfish Marina has plenty of activities for all ages. Guests can enjoy the dockside restaurant and ship's store for shopping and dining. The Sailfish Marina is also home to the Palm Beach Water Taxi. The Water Taxi provides narrated sight seeing tours, provides a shuttle to Peanut Island and makes a stop at an exclusive dock on Clematis Street for shopping in the downtown area.

    Peanut Island

    • Taking the Palm Beach Water Taxi to Peanut Island can be an adventure in itself. Peanut Island is a manmade island named for a peanut oil shipping terminal that was to be built there. Guests can enjoy picnics, camping and snorkeling on the island. The northern sandbar is a huge sandbar that extends to within a few hundred feet of the Blue Heron Bridge. The south side of Peanut Island contains an old guard station, the Palm Beach Maritime Museum and the Kennedy-era nuclear bomb shelter that was built for the President's family, who owned a compound on Palm Beach.

    South Florida Science Museum

    • The South Florida Science Museum provides hands-on exhibits the whole family can enjoy. Some of the permanent exhibits include: Ancient Egypt, A Celebration of Life, Space Gallery with the Apollo 14 moon rock collection, Recollections (which lets visitors see colorful full-size images of themselves), and The Solar Express, featuring solar-powered miniature trains. There is also Galaxy Golf for those who enjoy miniature golf, and a planetarium, as well.

    Palm Beach Zoo

    • The Palm Beach Zoo displays animals from around the globe. In addition to animal exhibits, the Palm Beach Zoo has a carousel for guests to enjoy, an interactive fountain that allows children to dance and play in the water while listening to music, and the Tropics of America exhibit, which houses animals from Central and South American

    Water Activities

    • Like all of the small communities located in Palm Beach County, Singer Island has plenty of water activities to enjoy. Visitors can go para-sailing, rent wave runners or even rent a boat for the day. Many people visit the beach to sunbathe and swim, as well.
