There are several popular beaches near Lawndale. Manhattan Beach offers a 928-foot long pier, volleyball courts, fishing, a bike path and swings, and is known as a hot spot for "bikini watching." Hermosa, another popular beach, is also the home of the Hermosa Beach Playhouse, a popular venue created by the Greater South Beach Area to showcase plays and musicals.
Outdoor activities in and around Lawndale include golfing opportunities at the Alondra Park Golf Course.The 18-hole course can be enjoyed for as little as $10, as of time of publication. The venue also offers amenities including practice facilities and a full bar and restaurant. A more kid-friendly option is Jane Addams Park, where parents can take their children to enjoy two large playgrounds, lighted baseball and basketball courts, a wading pool, snack bars, and picnic facilities.
About a 10-minute drive from Lawndale is the Redondo Beach Historical Museum. Located in a 1904 Queen Anne Victorian house, it displays a collection of Redondo Beach artifacts and memorabilia. The nearby Manhattan Beach Historical Society and Museum displays a collection of photos, newspapers and artifacts about Manhattan Beach's history.
"The Lawndalian," an online and print publication produced by the city, lists both annual and recurring events such as Easter Egg hunts, Christmas celebrations, summer camps, fitness classes and cultural activities. The publication also describes ongoing community projects and programs.
