Located in the heart of Southern California less than an hour away from Los Angeles, the city of Ontario is a place where you can experience a long list of interesting and exciting activities. Named after the Canadian province, Ontario has everything from outdoor recreation to major attractions. Whether you're interested in the performing arts or learning about history, you'll find something to do in Ontario.
  1. Recreation

    • Ontario has a host of recreational activities for people of all ages. Enjoy a round of golf in the Whispering Lakes 18-hole golf course (no website; 2525 E. Riverside Dr.; Ontario; 909-923-3673) or in Creekside's nine-hole golf course (no website; 3151 E. Riverside Dr.; Ontario; 909-947-1981). Ontario's Recreation and Community Services Department (no website; 1265 S. Palmetto Ave.; Ontario; 909-395-202) offers classes and programs for children and adults. You can join sports, swimming lessons, arts and crafts classes, dance and exercise classes and special interest classes or go on excursions and attend special events.

    Museum

    • Learn about the city's history, art and cultural traditions by viewing permanent and changing exhibits in Museum of History & Art, Ontario (no website; 225 South Euclid Ave.; Ontario; 909-395-2510). Two permanent exhibits, "Road Ways" and "Gem of the Foothills," focus on Ontario's local and regional history. You'll learn about historic routes in the area and about the founding, transitions, people and organizations of Ontario. The museum is open Thursday through Sunday and admission is free, as of the date of publication.

    Historic Site

    • Take a tour of the historic Graber Olive House (graberolives.com), where the famous Graber olives have been produced since 1894. Specifically during fall, you'll be able to see the different activities that center around the tradition of grading, curing and canning Graber olives. Open daily, you'll be able to purchase gifts, olives and other Graber products in the shops. Tours of the Graber Olive House, located in a residential area north of Ontario's business district, are available throughout the year.

    Entertainment

    • If you want to watch a sporting event, concert, family show or other special event, these take place in the Citizens Business Bank Arena (cbbankarena.com). As of the date of publication, performances include Cirque Du Soleil, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and WWE Raw. The 225,000-square-foot venue also features suites located on two levels. Tickets may be purchased in person, online or by phone.

      Attend a race at the Auto Club Speedway (autoclubspeedway.com), where you can watch the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Junior Drag Racing League and other racing events. The speedway offers more than 1,000 on-site RV spaces, as well as 500 additional RV spaces in an off-site camping area. Tickets are available in person, online and by phone.

    Wine Tasting and Tours

    • Enjoy wine tasting in the San Antonio Winery (sanantoniowinery.com) or Ontario Wine and Gift Store (no website; 2802 S. Milliken Ave.; Ontario; 909-947-3995). Complimentary tasting is available daily where you'll be able to sample three wines for free from a selected list. For a fee, you can taste three or four limited reserve wines from the Riboli Family's estates. Tours are available about 40 minutes away in the San Antonio Winery located in Los Angeles.
