Visit the main beach, known as Laguna Beach, in the heart of Laguna Hills, along the South Coast Highway. The main beach is one of the largest beaches in Laguna and is known for its white lifeguard tower in the center of the beach. You can swim or surf, but swimming is prohibited during the summer months due to dangerous rip currents.
Enjoy a family barbeque at Doheny State Beach, which offers fire pits, tables and grills, and swimming. If you are volleyball enthusiast, 1000 Steps Beach in South Laguna offers volleyball pits and nets.
Families with kids in Laguna Hills will enjoy a variety of activities, including Dinosaur Park, also called Prehistoric Park, located behind the Laguna Community Center on Alicia Parkway. Dinosaur Park is appropriate for kids ages 1 and older. Kids will enjoy climbing on faux whale bones, playing on playground equipment, and looking for fossils in the park’s rock walls.
During the month of October, celebrate the fall season with your children at Pumpkin City, located in the parking lot of the Laguna Hills Mall. Each year, the mall parking lot is transformed into a pumpkin patch and carnival-like atmosphere, complete with pony rides, fair rides and live music. Make a day of it while picking your pumpkin for the season.
Spend the day enjoying nature and exploring more than 40 miles of hiking trails in the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, located at 18751 Laguna Canyon Road. Before striking out on your hiking adventure, visit the award-winning Nix Nature Center to gather wildlife and trail information. The Laguna Coast Wilderness Park winds through oak and sycamore forest. It also offers scenic overlooks of some of the last coastal canyons in California.
Enjoy cocktails and dinner at Javier’s, located on the Newport Coast. Javier's offers home-style Mexican food and a wide selection of premium tequilas.
Beer lovers will find a large selection of draft beers at the Yard House. The restaurant has a casual restaurant and plays classic classic rock 'n' roll music.
Seafood lovers will enjoy a classy atmosphere at the King Fish House, which has been serving up seafood for three generations.
During the months of July and August, Laguna Hills holds the Pageant of the Masters. During this festival, area artists recreate and display famous classic and contemporary paintings with real people and props. Also during the summer months, the Sawdust Art Festival, located in Laguna Canyon, offers a place to shop for original arts and crafts. More than 200 artists from Laguna Hills present and sell their work, and they offer demonstrations and classes for all ages.
