Completed in 1973, Willis Tower was the world's tallest building until it was was surpassed by Malaysia's Petronas Towers in 1998. The Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago is 415 meters tall and is the second-highest building in the U.S. Chicago is also home to the Aon Center (346 meters) and the John Hancock Center (344 meters). New York's Empire State Building (381 meters) and the Bank of America Tower (367 meters) also are featured in the list of the world's 25 tallest buildings.
China is home to six of the world's 25 tallest buildings. Built in 2008, the Shanghai Financial Center is the third tallest building in the world at 492 meters. Nanjing Greenland Financial Center is the second tallest in China and seventh overall, and it is 450 meters. Guangzhou International Finance Center is 438 meters, while the Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai measures 421 meters at its highest point. Guangzhou's CITIC Plaza is 391 meters tall, and Shenzhen's Shun Hing Square rises up to 389 meters.
Five of the world's 25 tallest buildings are in Hong Kong. The International Commerce Center is Hong Kong's tallest building and the fourth tallest building in the world; it stands at 484 meters. The Two International Finance Center is 415 meters at its peak and is the second tallest building in Hong Kong. Other notable skyscrapers in Hong Kong include the Central Plaza (374 meters), the Bank of China Tower (367 meters) and the The Center (346 meters).
Aside from the Burj Khalifa, Dubai is also home to the 363 meters Almas Tower and the 355 meters Emirates Office Tower. The Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- the world's tallest buildings between 1998 and 2004 -- both measure 452 meters. Built in 2004, Taiwan's Taipei 101 tops out at 509 meters and was the world's tallest building before the construction of the Burj Khalifa. The Tuntex Sky Tower, located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan is 348 meters high.
