Things to Do in Orlando, Florida, in November

With the humidity gone and the threat of hurricanes just about over, November is perfect time to visit Orlando. As one of the top family destinations in the world according to Lonely Planet, the city and surrounding areas offer year-round activities not related to theme parks. By venturing from the attractions, both tourists and residents can experience Orlando's festivals, competitions, holiday displays and nearby sports venues.

  1. Orlando Food and Wine Fest

    • The city's downtown Lake Eola is the setting for the Orlando Food and Wine Fest. The two-day event features food, drinks, a sports bar and entertainment. Over 30 vendors offer sample-sized tastes of their specialties. Beverages include wines from all over the world, beer and soft drinks. Entertainment sections feature music and cooking demonstrations. Admission to the fest is required and the purchase of additional tickets is necessary to sample the food. Kids under 12 can enter free. No pets and outside coolers allowed.

    Urban Dare

    • Urban Dare is a one-day scavenger hunt and adventure contest through the city of Orlando. Teams of two must complete 12 mental, physical or photo challenges. Competitors may walk, run and take public transportation, and the quest typically covers a 5- to 7-mile area. Cameras are necessary and smart phones are encouraged. The winning team moves on to an advanced challenge at a later date. An admission fee is required.

    Festival of Trees

    • The annual Festival of Trees takes place at the Orlando Museum of Art. Funds raised by the holiday tree display benefit the museum. Here, guests are able to view decorated trees and holiday vignettes. Wreaths and small trees are available for purchase. A children's area features games, crafts and gift shop. A café is also on site. Admission is required for all visitors aged 3 and up, and senior discounts are available on Tuesdays. Parking is available at the museum for an additional fee.

    Ice Skating

    • The Ice Factory is located just outside of Orlando and is near the major resorts. Public ice skating is available during the afternoons and evenings. Family night specials include admission, food and drinks at a discounted price. Skate rental price is not included in admission and is additional. Skate aids for children under 10 are also available for rent. Dress code recommendations include pants, sweaters and socks. The Ice Factory does not permit outside food or drinks.
