Marquette, Iowa, was formerly known as North McGregor. The two communities of McGregor and Marquette go as far back as June 1693. Marquette became incorporated in 1874, known for being a supplier to the largest railroad route in Iowa. Water ferries, and later, a pontoon bridge carried passengers and goods across the Mississippi River from Iowa to Wisconsin. In an area rich in railroad and river history, Marquette and nearby towns offer many attractions to travelers.
The Miss Marquette Riverboat Casino on the Mississippi River was purchased by the Isle of Capri Corporation. The gambling facility is known as both the Miss Marquette and the Lady Luck. It is located at the Port of Marquette and includes an on-land resort hotel with restaurants and other amenities.
