Midwest Living magazine named Decorah, Iowa, one of the top 100 best small town getaways in the Midwest. Whether looking for a day of kayaking adventure or just a slow trip down the river on an inner tube, Decorah is a charming, picturesque destination.
Decorah, in the northeastern part of Iowa, sits along the scenic Upper Iowa River. The 110-mile-long river is encased by a variety of terrain including limestone bluffs, rich forestry and farmland. In addition to tubing, the river is popular for kayaking, canoeing and fishing.
A few places in and around Decorah offer tube rentals to enjoy the Upper Iowa River. These include Randy's Bluffton Store and Campground and the River and Trail Outfitters. Randy's is located 10 miles from Decorah while River and Trail Outfitters is in town.
After a lazy day of tubing, Decorah offers a variety of places to rest for the night or enjoy the town. Decorah's lodging includes campground, cabins, hotel and bed and breakfasts, many of which are locally owned. In addition to its outdoor recreation, Decorah is home to multiple museums and local theaters and plenty of dining options.
