Types of Boeing Aircraft

Boeing is the world's largest manufacturer of commercial and military aircraft. Boeing's customers include the U.S. military, NASA and more than 90 countries. If you've ever flown commercially, you've likely flown on a Boeing aircraft. Boeing manufactures a number of civilian and military aircraft.

  1. Commercial Aircraft

    • Boeing has five commercial models, each with anywhere from 100 to 500 passenger seats: the 737, 747, 767, 777 and the 787 Dreamliner. The 787 Dreamliner, which is still in production, will offer advanced technology that allows the plane to self-monitor and report requirements to ground-based computers.

    Boeing Business Jets

    • Boeing has four business jets designed for corporate or private use: the 787VIP, 777VIP, 747VIP and the BBJ. Each features offices, bedrooms, showers, dining facilities and more. The BBJ is the smallest model, ranging between 807 to 1120 square feet.

    Military ISR Aircraft

    • Boeing designs a number of IRS (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) aircraft for the U.S. military. These include the 737 AEW&C, 767 AWACS, E-3 AWACS, P-8A Poseidon and the ScanEagle (an unmanned aircraft).

    Military Transport Aircraft

    • Boeing's C-17 Globemaster III is a military aircraft used to transport tanks and other heavy equipment, soldiers and supplies, up to 160,000 pounds.

    Strike Systems

    • Boeing is also behind a number of popular military fighters and bombers including the F/A-18 Hornet, the F-22 Raptor and the B-2 Spirit (the stealth bomber), to name a few. These aircraft have flown in a number of wars, including Operation Desert Fox, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

    Rotorcraft

    • Boeing designs, develops and manufactures helicopters, including the AH-64 Apache and the CH-47D/F Chinook, as well as the V-22 Osprey, a tiltrotor aircraft.
