Washington, D.C., is home to many historic places. If you are short on time and want to see as much as you can during your stay in the nation's capital, consider taking a tour. Free tours are offered at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C. The center is open Monday through Saturday except for some holidays. Tour passes are required and can be obtained at the front desk. The historic Capitol also can be toured, but reservations must be made months in advance through your local senator or representative's office.

DC Tours offers tours of the Capitol and other historic places. Tourists can take an open-top bus tour or a bicycle tour. Some tours are specifically targeted toward great photography spots or fabulous restaurants. Besides the Capitol, DC Tours also visits the White House, Smithsonian museums and Arlington National Cemetery. Tours range between 2.5 and 10.5 hours, and all cost less than $100 (as of September 2010).
